Forest Grove, Oregon, has a new compressed natural gas fueling station and natural gas vehicle maintenance facility that is being used for the area’s refuse collection trucks. The facilities are located at the Forest Grove Transfer Station where several types of solid waste and recyclable materials are collected and processed. The residents of Forest Grove are now enjoying quieter collection vehicles with significantly lower emissions.
ET Environmental designed and constructed the CNG fueling system for an initial fleet size of 37 refuse trucks. The time-fill system refuels the vehicles nightly after returning from their routes. The first phase of this project also included a vehicle defueling system and code compliant CNG vehicle maintenance facility upgrades to an existing 5,000-square-foot garage with eight service bays. The second phase of this project will add another 26 time-fill fueling stalls for a total of 63 fueling stalls.
Phase 2 of this project will be implemented as new CNG trucks are brought into the fleet.
